| Best Bet/Value | R7 | 6. Canadian Express | Fitter from the fresh run and good late splits there. |
| Next Best | R5 | 2. Divakara | Can mix form up but looks the best horse in the race. |
- Rail 8.5m. I worry about this track on warm weeks and 30 degrees race day.
- This will be hard and fast. Sure to be horses it’s too firm for. Could be a day to be somewhere up on speed.
Stats that matter:
- Usually name the positive stats here but one of the leading jocks has had a plain time of it recently.
- Kyle Wilson-Taylor has only had the 3 winners from his last 50 rides and ROI of -72.5%.
- Ben Thompson on the other hand has ridden 14 winners from his last 50 runners and just a class above most the other riders up here at the moment.
Race 1
A lot to learn here. (6) Cardonette is on debut for Gollan and loved the recent trial. Sat up on speed, showed a turn of foot and put them away. (5) Boozie Miss also on debut for Gollan and gate one is a big help. Can pop out on speed and give a sight. Money the key on race day for those two. (7) Carpet Ride is in the Hoysted camp. Every chance in recent trial but given an easy enough time of it and the effort was good. (10) Making News has race experience on its side and that’s always a help.
Selections:
(6) Cardonette
(5) Boozie Miss
(7) Carpet Ride
(10) Making News
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 2
Gollan has (10) Tilia with its first run back in 45 weeks. Would have to be a great training effort, but she made good ground at the most recent trial. Could be a big improver at 2nd racing prep. (6) Crypto Miss, (4) Switch The Stars and (8) Seismic Boom look the other hopes. Crypto Miss has the race experience so maybe a slight lean to it of those runners. Respect any money for Seismic Boom on debut in a good yard.
Selections:
(10) Tilia
(6) Crypto Miss
(8) Seismic Boom
(4) Switch The Stars
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 3
Thought (2) Subterrain was pretty good in the trial. Led and got it cheap but did extend and put a gap on them late (3.3L). In a good stable and have to respect. (7) Odin’s Mount is limited but has race experience and Thompson on top. Good draw a help too. (1) Express Star placed on debut and can improve. Not a good race at all.
Selections:
(2) Subterrain
(7) Odin’s Mount
(1) Express Star
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 4
This lacks any class or horses with upside. (2) Don Pedro had no momentum last start when the favourite, warmed up and stole a break. The effort was good and set to peak here with those few runs under his belt. (4) Ocean Zar is probably the most consistent but just doesn’t win often. Moor rides for Hoysted and draws to land midfield. Gets every chance and well placed. (1) Menazzi and (3) Becamo next best, but only looks a couple of winning hopes to me.
Selections:
(4) Ocean Zar
(2) Don Pedro
(1) Menazzi
(3) Becamo
Suggested Bet: Win bet (4) Ocean Zar
Race 5
There is no doubt about the ability of (2) Divakara. The issue is the consistency. Can back up a good run with a very plain one for seemingly no reason. Peaks here 4th up, trip no concern and main query might be firm track. (4) Our Orator has been consistent, just lacks a little class. No upside after 37 starts, but if he runs up to recent form he is a place chance. (9) Addition has only won 2 of 16 but is never beaten far. Thompson rides for Gollan and looks like a must in exotics. (8) Loch Awe a non winner also but can also throw him in exotics with some confidence.
Selections:
(2) Divakara
(9) Addition
(8) Loch Awe
(4) Our Orator
Suggested Bet: Win bet (2) Divakara
Race 6
This race doesn’t really suit any of these horses and I can find a knock on them all. (1) Shalailed has shown good ability at times and mixes it up. Like the 3kg claim here but he is a much better horse on soft ground. (3) Town Crier is set to peak 4th up but the last couple of runs have been a bit soft late. Record says he loves firm ground but the excuse for the plain run two back was “too firm”. (6) Fragile Love might be in the best form. Has been good since joining Dunn and has a strong finish. Record at the trip isn’t good (4:0:0:0). (7) I Am Marvel trialled ok, gets Wheeler on top and blinkers. First up record nothing to write home about (5:0:1:1).
Selections:
(6) Fragile Love
(3) Town Crier
(7) I Am Marvel
(1) Shalailed
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 7
Big field and open race. (6) Canadian Express was well held on return but the winner bolted in that day. He was the 3rd best L200m of the race and comes here stripping fitter. Will be decent odds and genuine chance. (7) Carnegie Hill is Freedman, gets a 3kg claim and a 40 day freshen. This is harder but still lightly raced and could improve. (5) Mazis is a horse that has done my head in. Does have ability but has been placed all over the shop and hard to get a guide on. Everything says he will want further but the recent trial was good and could sprint well fresh.
Selections:
(6) Canadian Express
(5) Mazis
(7) Carnegie Hill
(14) Rosso Levanto
Suggested Bet: E/W bet (6) Canadian Express
Race 8
Gollan adds blinkers to (1) Adranos and that may be the key. He is always around the money but only won 1 of 7. Very consistent and if the blinkers work, he can win. (5) Now Is The Hour was a dominant winner at first start for Gollan. Had been OK down south but the trials and win have been great in QLD. Wide gate the issue but looks to have more wins in store. (6) San Gabriel will be winning races this prep and trials have been good. Just feel the 1200m might be too short to show best. Nothing would surprise in a wide open race.
Selections:
(1) Adranos
(5) Now Is The Hour
(6) San Gabriel
(4) Livalittle
Suggested Bets: No bet
