Overview
Mildura is a kidney-shaped track that’s played fairly in recent times. At its two-day Cup meeting a fortnight ago, every horse had its chance – expect more of the same today. For many of these runners, Mildura offers a welcome escape from wet tracks onto a Good 4 surface.
Summary
- Race 1: No.1 Denace The Menace ($41) & Sectors ($3.40)
- Race 3: No.1 Alpine Honey ($8)
- Race 5: No.4 Flip The Switch & 6. Miss Gabbiano ($5)
- Race 7: No.4 Top Honours ($12)
The Bets:
Race 1 No.1 Denace The Menace ($41) & Sectors ($3.40)
Denace The Menace debuts for Jane Duncan in a weak race. His first start was plain, but recent jump-outs suggest improvement. Should roll forward and give a sight at big odds.
Sectors has been getting too far back but finishing well in stronger races. Back to 1100m suits, and while drawn wide, he has gone forward before – a tactic that could prove decisive. Has the best form in the race and is the one to beat.
Race 3 No.1 Alpine Honey ($8)
Stepped straight to 2000m at just his second start last start and found the line well despite never threatening. Now at peak fitness and likely to race handier, he should be in the finish.
Aberlutely and Call Me Rhonda are the main dangers.
Race 5 No.4 Flip The Switch ($7.50) & 6. Miss Gabbiano ($5)
Very keen on a two-bet play.
Flip The Switch has been tackling stronger races. She can race on-speed and getting back onto a firm deck after two runs on soft ground is a plus.
Miss Gabbiano beat current favourite Smashing Action last start at Balaklava and there’s no reason she can’t do it again. She’s been kept up to the mark with a sharp Murray Bridge jump-out and should get every chance from gate two.
Race 8 No.4 Top Honours ($12)
Looks a strong each-way hope to close the card. First run for the Jokic yard and impressed with a Murtoa jump-out on Monday. A return to firm footing is the key – that’s when he produces his best.
