Race by race overview
Race 1:
Tricky start to the program. My Phar Lady peaks third up and maps ideally, with the in-form Jason Collett taking the ride and likely to give her a gun run. Charleroi will need luck from the draw, though stepping to 1600m should help and she is a danger. Cape Byron comes off a plain last-start run but can be forgiven, as his run two starts back puts him right in the mix. The consistent Kingston Charm rounds out the numbers.
Selections:
(14) My Phar Lady
(4) Charleroi
(1) Cape Byron
(5) Kingston Charm
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 2:
As expected, plenty of speed up front in the Highway. Very keen to see Autumn Break return, unbeaten in three career starts and looking even better in a recent 1000m trial. She maps beautifully and looks capable of progressing beyond Highway grade. Rose Aye should get a nice sit in behind the speed with James McDonald booked and is likely at peak fitness. Fingers Hunter draws much better, Collett riding in great form and the return to a dry deck is key. Nimble Star rounds out the numbers, well suited by the hot tempo.
Selections:
(12) Autumn Break
(16) Rose Aye
(2) Fingers Hunter
(6) Nimble Star
Suggested Bet: Autumn Break WIN
Race 3:
A strong 2YO race with plenty of speed expected, which should suit the backmarkers. At odds, Essay goes on top after a stylish recent 799m trial. Campione D’Italia has had the ideal two-trial setup, screams class and should relish the fast tempo. Lady Moscato comes out of a very strong-rated debut but may be better over 1100m or further. Spicy Miss is next best but looks short in the market.
Selections:
(11) Essay
(2) Campione D’Italia
(6) Lady Moscato
(5) Spicy Miss
Suggested Bet: Essay / Campione D’Italia WIN
Race 4:
A two-horse tactical affair. Unleeshing was outstanding last start back in grade and up in trip and is well suited stepping to the spacious Randwick track. Lancelot De Lac will roll along in front and could run rivals into the ground. Pretty Powerful peaks fitness-wise and should enjoy the rise in trip from a good draw. Aroha State is next best.
Selections:
(9) Unleeshing
(7) Lancelot De Lac
(5) Pretty Powerful
(3) Aroha State
Suggested Bet: Unleeshing WIN
Race 5:
Another race where the top two in the market look the key chances. Monte Veebee was extremely impressive first up for the Baker stable; the slight query is back to 1200m but he looks progressive. Polyglot draws perfectly fresh and has trialled sharply, though must tick the 1200m box. Both Bundeena and Uzziah should land on speed and try to pinch the race.
Selections:
(7) Monte Veebee
(3) Polyglot
(1) Bundeena
(2) Uzziah
Suggested Bet: Monte Veebee WIN
Race 6:
One of the better betting races on the card with solid early speed expected. Diddle Dumpling had no luck first up when snagged back, but her final 200m was excellent. She strips fitter and should get a cosy run. Cinsault appeals back to 1300m, though the wide draw is the query. Scripted comes to Sydney with James McDonald and should get her chance from gate four. Candlewick rounds out the numbers, third up and peaking.
Selections:
(5) Diddle Dumpling
(6) Cinsault
(4) Scripted
(3) Candlewick
Suggested Bet: Diddle Dumpling EW
Race 7:
The Inglis Millennium is the feature for the 2YOs. Massive field and strong speed make it difficult. Calamari Ring gets the nod at odds; despite the draw, the rail true and tempo should allow her chance. Fireball is the obvious danger off a solid debut and improved trials. Star Of Jamaica drops in from Queensland off a stylish win, with tempo and Lloyd booking key. Profitabelle would have gone on top if not for gate one.
Selections:
(8) Calamari Ring
(4) Fireball
(5) Star Of Jamaica
(18) Profitabelle
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 8:
The Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes for the 3YOs. Tempted is the best bet of the day, following an identical lead-up to her Run To The Rose win. She maps perfectly and presents at backable odds. Wodeton is the danger, with two very quiet trials suggesting he is ready to explode fresh. Napoleonic has lit up the trials and is the untapped runner who needs to step up. Ruination will be strongest late.
Selections:
(3) Tempted
(5) Wodeton
(2) Napoleonic
(6) Ruination
Suggested Bet: Tempted WIN
Race 9:
The hardest leg of the quaddie. West Of Africa was desperately unlucky on the Gold Coast and looks well suited rising to 1600m. Sun God is fit and in form, ideally placed with a good draw and Zac Lloyd aboard. Bear On The Loose and Piggyback have both trialled well and can finish strongly.
Selections:
(7) West Of Africa
(16) Sun God
(10) Bear On The Loose
(12) Piggyback
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 10:
A cracking way to end the program, a sharp 1000m dominated by fresh runners. Nervous Witness has trialled like a rocket and gets James McDonald. Celui is a big fresh chance who has also trialled superbly and should get the 1–1. Spring Lee may want further but class keeps him in the mix. Lulumon rounds out the numbers.
Selections:
(5) Nervous Witness
(6) Celui
(7) Spring Lee
(10) Lulumon
Suggested Bet: Nervous Witness WIN
