Summary of Best Bets

  • Best Bet: Race 1 (4) Crusader Voyage
  • Next Best: Race 5 (6) All Kinds Of Folk

Turf Talk

  • Rail out 9m.
  • I just don’t like racing with rails out this far.
  • Should play a bit to the front but just a wait-and-see approach.

Stats that matter

  • Jack Bruce has saddled eight winners from his last 24 runners and has a decent enough team engaged today.
  • Ben Thompson has ridden 10 winners from his last 50 rides and is going as well as anyone up here, although still showing a negative ROI of -20.4%.

Race 1

(4) Crusader Voyage changes from Waller to Bruce and might find this easier than Sydney. He looks half cat when they get to him in races but the form down there would be winning this.

(10) Tassorati is a weak animal but has the ability to sit up on speed if they like. That’s about as positive as I can get. (5) Dust Cloud looks weak also but is with Gollan and does get blinkers first time.

(3) Cool Drinks changes stables to Healy so just watch any money moves.

Selections:
(4) Crusader Voyage
(3) Cool Drinks
(5) Dust Cloud

(10) Tassorati

Suggested Bet: Win (4) Crusader Voyage

Race 2

Well (1) Brash Magic was $31-$71 on debut at the coast and the run was way better than that. Got back to near last and was the second best L600m, 400m and 200m of the race. Draws better here and can run a race.

(3) Two Minds has the Toowoomba form. Has been runner up at both career runs to date and the fight he showed last start was very good. Can win, would just have liked to have seen him run here before we bet.

(7) Katie Aine is limited but won a recent trial and could improve in her second prep.

(8) Listen Jani is with Gollan and she looks to have a nice action. Not bad on debut and tipped straight out. Ran last in her trial but not let go and feel she might be a big improver this time in work.

Selections:
(1) Brash Magic
(8) Listen Jani
(3) Two Minds
(2) L Profecia
(7) Katie Aine

Suggested Bet: Split bets if prices allow (1) Brash Magic and (8) Listen Jani

Race 3

Pretty ordinary bunch of animals these ones.

Top two selections have come out and ruined this race. Zero interest.

(4) El Centro showed avg ability in first prep and that is more than good enough to win here. Never a bit fan of a heavy track first up but it’ a weak race and winnable.

(2) Siesta is an ok animal but lacks class. Changes stables, joins Gollan now. Won the most recent trial and watch the market and respect any positive moves for her.

Selections:
(2) Siesta
(4) El Centro

(6) Sequel

(7) Immediate

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 4

Had to love the win of (1) Illegal Justice at second career start. Circled them on the corner and ran right away from them. Sent for a break after that and the recent trial was just ok. Looks a decent one and can win if the breaks come at the right time.

Loved what (6) Moonan Quartz did in his first prep and some good runs at big prices. Outclassed in recent trial but he has the ability to win. Assume they try to go forward from a sticky gate though.

Not too sure where the dominant win came from for (7) Moshulu Spirit. Hadn’t shown huge ability race day or trials and he bolted in at $2.10 at the Sunny Coast. Thompson rides again and have to respect off that win.

(3) Whispering Rogue and (4) Adranos definitely worth thoughts for exotic players.

Selections:
(1) Illegal Justice
(6) Moonan Quartz
(7) Moshulu Spirit
(3) Whispering Rogue

Suggested Bet: Quinella 1,6,7

Race 5

(6) All Kinds Of Folk had no luck two back and last start was $3.60 into $3.10 late and solid at Doomben. That form has been franked since and any rain would be a help. Thompson stays on top.

Not sure (10) Lonesome Soul is good enough to win but is suited a few ways. Rock hard fit and just 52.5kg is a huge positive. Lacks class but usually good late.

(3) Captain Maverick has been very consistent lately. Handles all conditions and shouldn’t be far off the lead from the good gate. Only won two of 26 is the issue.

(2) Smart Is Smart is going better than ever and just has to tick the 2000m box.

Selections:
(6) All Kinds Of Folk
(3) Captain Maverick
(10) Lonesome Soul
(2) Smart Is Smart

Suggested Bet: (6) All Kinds Of Folk

Race 6

Hard race to work this out.

I’ve always liked (3) San Gabriel but he has only won two from 18. Got up the fence late last start and was good through the line. Peaks third up and cut out of the track will help.

(4) June was rock solid on a deteriorating track last time out. Handles all grounds but another with a poor strike rate of two from 28.

Always hard lining up Toowoomba form but (8) Go Maro had been good at Doomben and Eagle Farm between Toowoomba runs. Gets in light after the claim and yet another winning chance.

Happy to forgive the Heavy 10 run from (5) Puff ‘N’ Harry last time out. Nice win before that and this is a good stable. Can be around the money here.

Selections:
(3) San Gabriel
(4) June
(5) Puff ‘N’ Harry
(8) Go Maro

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 7

(5) Cindersea is a walking ATM but somehow I struggle to find the winning days. Won two on the trot and I backed her either side of that when she was runner up. Has won or placed in seven of 10, draws ok and gets a claim to help.

(2) Hidden Melody got out to 1400m and I have no idea why. Back to this trip from the inside draw is a lot more suitable and I’d think Doomben should suit.

(12) Moulin Miss has won two of three at this track and likely to push forward from the bad draw. She may well have the speed to cross them and if she does, she can win.

(10) Blue Spinel doesn’t win often these days but has bumped into some handy ones lately and she might find this a little easier.

(7) Oberoi Princess is handy without being classy. Has a good fresh record (4:1:2:0) but needs some luck from the gate.

Selections:
(5) Cindersea
(10) Blue Spinel
(12) Moulin Miss
(2) Hidden Melody

Suggested Bet: No Bet

Race 8

Fair to make a case that (5) North Pole is the best horse in the race and may still be improving. His last prep was his best where he won two open three-year-old races on the trot in town. Has trialled ok and has a decent fresh record.

(6) I’m Heroic would love a drop of rain that is predicted and has been good all prep without winning. Wide gate is the concern here and needs a good ride early.

I like (1) Quothquan as a horse but wide gate, fresh and big weight are all queries. Has the class to beat them still.

(12) Winsome Star could pop up and not surprise here. Just doesn’t win out of turn.

Selections:
(5) North Pole
(6) I’m Heroic
(1) Quothquan
(12) Winsome Star

Suggested Bet: No Bet
