Rosebud winner Chilly Girl will enter unchartered territory when she extends to 1400 metres for the first time in the Tea Rose Stakes at Randwick.
The three-year-old has been restricted to short course trips during her brief career, taking out the Widden Stakes (1100m) on debut in January, the Rosebud on her return over the same journey, and finishing runner-up to Bangkok Hottie in the Furious Stakes (1200m) last start.
However, co-trainer Gerald Ryan has no qualms about her stepping up in distance for Saturday’s third leg of the four-race Princess Series, believing the daughter of Trapeze Artist will get even further than the Tea Rose trip.
“I think she’ll run 1400 metres. I think she’ll run a mile,” Ryan said.
“She has come out of her last race really well. I don’t think on the fence, behind the leader was the place to be.
“She was brave. She was strong, and it was only her third start in a race.
“She has come on from it. Certainly, looking at the feed bin and the way she is going at home, she hasn’t gone backwards.”
Chilly Girl suffered a setback following her Widden Stakes win, ruling her out of the autumn juvenile features.
She has shown her quality since, and while she is bred for speed on her dam’s side – I Got Chills won the 2005 Maribyrnong Trial and St Albans Stakes over 1000m – Trapeze Artist has produced the likes of Caulfield Guineas (1600m) winner Griff and Australasian Oaks (2000m) victor Panova.
The filly has drawn barrier two for her Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) assignment and will face a rematch with Bangkok Hottie, along with Furious Stakes third placegetter Striking Alibi.
