Star jockey Damian Lane has been locked in for the Melbourne Cup ride on Japanese stayer Chevalier Rose.
Lane, who has won seven G1 races during several successful riding stints in Japan, was approached by connections and later endorsed by the syndicate that races the multiple Stakes winner.
It is a similar ownership group to that which raced Lys Gracieux, aboard whom Lane won the Cox Plate in 2019. Lane also won the Caulfield Cup on Japanese stayer Mer De Glace during that 2019 spring.
A winner of five races, including a pair of G2 staying events over 2400m and 3600m last spring, Chevalier Rose has mixed his form this season, including unplaced runs in the G1 Tenno Sho and G1 Takarazuka Kinen.
The son of Deep Impact has entered pre-export quarantine in Japan ahead of a flight to Melbourne later this month.
He is rated $34 in Bet365’s Melbourne Cup market.
