Jockey Damian Lane said if it were up to him, he would run star mare Tresurethe Moment in the Cox Plate.
Lane rode the four-time Group 1 winner to victory in the Memsie Stakes on Saturday.
Speaking to SEN Track’s Gareth Hall, Lane said the Group 1 winning mare would be better suited to 2000m.
Yulong are due to decide the mare’s spring program shortly, as well as other Cox Plate hope Via Sistina.
”I think we’ve seen, although she won two Oaks just on class, you sort of could see that it took the brilliance out of her legs a little bit,” Lane said. ”But I think she’s going to be best up to 2000m. I think she’s got such a good turn of foot that that extra distance just takes that brilliance away from her a little bit. But yeah, we’ll see what the team come up with.”
Yulong Chief Operating Officer Sam Fairgray acknowledged the selection headache for connections, given both mares are owned by Yulong’s Mr Zhang.
“I think Mr Zhang would dearly love to keep them apart,” he said. “At the same point, my advice to him would be let the trainers do their thing with the horses and place them where they think is best, because we know in racing anything can change at the last minute,” Fairgray told racing.com’s The Verdict.
