Race by race overview
Race 1
A race in three to kick off midweek racing at Warwick Farm. The Charlton-trained (1) Graffiti Tycoon is clearly the horse to beat, 1300m back to 1250m second up cost him a win. +3.2L last 200m suggests he’s ready to explode back up in trip. 1300m suits, but I’d love to see Zac lead and not take any chances.
(6) Konsa is the place bet, $2.00 looks a very juicy price. 1300m fresh off slick trials reads well, as does James in the saddle.
(2) Condone has been gelded into this second prep, three trials and a good gate.
(3) Farset is next best with the smart use of a 2kg claim.
Selections:
(1) Graffiti Tycoon
(6) Konsa
(2) Condone
(3) Farset
Suggested Bet: Konsa Place
Race 2
Intriguing 2yo contest — the price about the Coolmore first starter (5) First Act seems too big. Nice enough trials, a solid map and, of course, gets James in the saddle.
(9) Portico brings the best last start figure to this event, peaks fitness-wise and gets a lovely map behind the leader.
(3) Celtic Soy returns for his second prep, nice trials and should lead.
(2) Artemex will land closer second up and gets a key jockey change with Clark booked.
Selections:
(5) First Act
(9) Portico
(3) Celtic Soy
(2) Artemex
Suggested Bet: Win (5) First Act
Race 3
The 2yo fillies’ turn now, bigger field with a stronger tempo expected up front over the 1000m. I love the map on debut for the $2.6m yearling (7) Sumeria, she’s had one 818m trial but is also stabled at Moss Vale, so no doubt more work at home. James on and should find the 1-1.
The Victorian (4) La Barrita is the most intriguing runner, quiet first trial before improving sharply in the second when the blinkers went on—wears them on debut and should cross.
If here, (5) Semantics has to go in the mix, $11 is big. Back-to-back eye-catching trials and the barrier improves with scratchings.
The well-bred (1) Coral is also in the mix as a place chance.
Selections:
(7) Sumeria
(4) La Barrita
(5) Semantics
(1) Coral
Suggested Bet: Win (7) Sumeria
Race 4
Wide open 1100m contest. (1) Rimbaud was solid first up and has more upside than key rivals. Smart use of the claim and maps well.
(5) Zale brings the best ratings profile, consistent type who always gives a sight on speed.
(6) Against The Law has been backed early again, peak fitness and no excuses now deep into the prep.
(4) Super Bright maps well from the inside, two-month freshen and trialled at Gosford—may need the run.
Selections:
(1) Rimbaud
(5) Zale
(6) Against The Law
(4) Super Bright
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 5
Nice enough speed engaged. Happy to side with the rock-hard fit (13) Superfabulistic. Caught wide last start when well backed but battled on strongly—peaks now and should lead rising to 1600m.
(5) Mojave River copped a poor ride on debut here, gets a key jockey change with James aboard.
(11) Zoufield looks well placed over 1600m fresh, fitness trial and should stalk the speed.
Last start winner (9) Lontrice has to go in the mix, good draw and upside to come.
Selections:
(13) Superfabulistic
(5) Mojave River
(11) Zoufield
(9) Lontrice
Suggested Bet: No Bet
Race 6
Big field with plenty of speed expected over 1300m. Hard to go past the price about (7) Skycatcher, didn’t quite live up to his NZ win last prep but looks to have returned a different horse—back-to-back sharp trials against quality opposition.
(5) Supermassive was good first up but had favours, extra 50m suits though $2.50 looks short enough.
(9) Invader Zim goes well fresh but query on dry decks (0/7).
(2) Battle Hymn bounced back second up, improves again third up and should cross from the draw.
Selections:
(7) Skycatcher
(5) Supermassive
(9) Invader Zim
(2) Battle Hymn
Suggested Bet: Each Way (7) Skycatcher
Race 7
Another big field to close the meeting. Tricky race.
Loved the last start win of (13) Loera and the upside she brings—maps to land on speed with no luck needed.
Big watch on the market with (15) Nandina, James booked from a lovely inside gate, solid trials and won fresh last prep.
(10) Just Glamorous got the perfect ride first up on speed, draws well again and can improve.
(2) Blitzgal is a query with the prep pattern—1400m win, back to 1250m, now up to 1300m again.
Selections:
(13) Loera
(15) Nandina
(10) Just Glamorous
(2) Blitzgal
Suggested Bet: No Bet
