Turf Talk
- Rail 12m
- Rail out a very long way. Never like that and assuming it will play to the front a little.
Stats that matter
- Angela Jones has won 9 of her last 50 rides with a ROI of +15%.
- The Munce stable has 6 winners from its last 27 runners and is building momentum heading into carnival time.
Race by race overview
Race 1
(10) Sword Of Legacy will have wins in store up here. The first run for the new stable was full of merit and shouldn’t be a maiden long. Fitter now and might be able to use the gate to map not far off the lead.
(1) Gram had trialled well for Gollan but not great first start for him. Could be an improver off that and Maloney takes the steer.
(5) Yoweri and (4) Parading Gus the next in the market but feel both are limited. Ordinary race to start.
Market the best guide on the others, so watch it closely race morning.
Selections:
(10) Sword Of Legacy
(1) Gram
(4) Parading Gus
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 2
(9) Pyrolysis looks incredibly well placed again except for the gate. May just push forward and take that out of the equation anyway. Placed in all five career runs and the Thompson booking is perfect.
(5) Duchess Difficult was very handy on debut and comes from a good stable. Should be better for the experience and can win here without surprising.
Gollan has a couple that interest. (6) Gossamer Glow was there to win but may not have handled the wet track. Gets Jones on and could be a sharp improver. (3) Pierata’s Spirit has trialled very well leading into this and looks a handy type, although the 3kg apprentice first-up is a small query.
Selections:
(3) Pierata’s Spirit
(6) Gossamer Glow
(9) Pyrolysis
(5) Duchess Difficult
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 3
(11) Uncommon Daisy is well bred and was good on debut. Sure to be better for the experience and fitness-wise. In a good stable and this looks a winnable race.
(8) Saturdays Girl is a frustration. Looms into races and looks the winner most of the time. Still 18 starts without a win but a must for exotics.
(3) Bon Vader has placed in three of four and looks really well placed. There is a slight query about whether he’s more of a follower than a winner.
Good support last prep for (4) Dust Cloud. Well held that day but may have shown something at home.
(6) The Aviator has had plenty of chances but last start was close to his best and looks better than Maiden grade.
Selections:
(11) Uncommon Daisy
(6) The Aviator
(3) Bon Vader
(8) Saturdays Girl
Suggested Bet: Win (11) Uncommon Daisy
Race 4
No doubt (1) Murkado is still learning but has nice ability. On speed and green on debut, then got back and reeled them in next time. From the good gate they can sit in the first four or five and be hard to beat.
(4) The Thorncaster is the one they all have to beat. Was all but home in town last start and just nailed late. Has upside, is in a leading stable and is well placed.
(3) Kickup Rocky has a turn of foot and looks capable of winning plenty of races, but the wide gate with the rail out makes it tricky.
(9) Momoka looked very good in trials and the debut run was more than a pass mark. Should keep improving and can win here.
Selections:
(4) The Thorncaster
(1) Murkado
(3) Kickup Rocky
(9) Momoka
Suggested Bet: Box trifecta (1,3,4,9)
Race 5
(1) Contingency should be ready to show best now with runs under the belt and suited at the trip.
(7) Castello Grande has always shown ability and looks above average. Keen to see him over further but has the class to win.
(3) Toby’s Trusty and (4) Inquicktime are the other hopes.
Selections:
(7) Castello Grande
(1) Contingency
(3) Toby’s Trusty
(4) Inquicktime
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 6
Wide gate and first-up for (1) Editing but, gee, it looks well placed in a midweek CL1. Was competitive in BM78 races in Sydney last prep. Any luck in running and should beat these.
(5) Valencia Roc has always been consistent and around the mark. Broke through easily last start and can continue to improve.
(6) Chantilly is lightly raced with Gollan and may have more to come.
(3) Adranos is always around the money but more for exotics.
Watch the market closely.
Selections:
(1) Editing
(5) Valencia Roc
(6) Chantilly
(3) Adranos
Suggested Bet: Win (1) Editing
Race 7
Bloody handy CL3.
(3) Vein Girl is outstanding on her day. Given a break after being outclassed last prep and trialled very well. Apprentice booking is a slight surprise.
With the 2nd fave coming out this looks a one horse race.
It’s back Vein Girl or forget the race for me.
Place chances to (1) Braveheart, (6) Impact Zone, (8) Hey Daisy, (9) Miss McLaren.
Selections:
(3) Vein Girl
(8) Hey Daisy
(1) Braveheart
(6) Impact Zone
Suggested Bet: Win (3) Vein Girl
Race 8
(5) Koruto is a veteran who can pop up in races like this and would not surprise.
(7) The Irish is always a chance in this grade and one for exotics.
Not sure (8) Thinkhardandfast has come back well but fitter now and this will tell the story.
(6) Smart As Smart is in great form but generally better at Doomben.
Selections:
(5) Koruto
(8) Thinkhardandfast
(7) The Irish
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 9
(6) Summation has looked like a horse wanting a mile or further. Trials were solid and last start produced the best late sectionals of the race. This trip suits and he should be strong late.
(3) Highgrove Rose was fourth in a Group 3 last prep and has a class edge on most of these. One run back and should be competitive late.
(13) Miss Adrift can be on speed for a longway and give a cheeky sight.
Respecting (9) Cantarito with Jones riding for Waller.
Selections:
(3) Highgrove Rose
(6) Summation
(13) Miss Adrift
(9) Cantarito
Suggested Bet: Small e/w (3) Highgrove Rose
