The Everest once again set a new record for a race on World Pool, with Ka Ying Rising nearly attracting more money individually, than was bet on the 2025 edition of the $20 million showcase on the Hong Kong Jockey Club product.
Bookmakers enjoyed it as the Hong Kong champ went under to add to a series of long-priced winners in Melbourne.
“It has become the second biggest day of the calendar behind the Melbourne Cup and it is closing quickly,” Palmerbet’s Grant Palmer said.
“We had our strongest hold on-course as well.
“The Melbourne Cup is the Melbourne Cup, but it is really only the one race on that day. The Everest and Caulfield Cup combined to keep punters engaged all day.
“It is phenomenal. Fortunately one of the champs got beat because the multi of Ka Ying and Glow was massive.”
Entain reported Tempted was a loser in the Everest book before multis were added, with punters were more than happy to couple Ka Ying Rising and Autumn Glow in record numbers.
“Ka Ying Rising got beaten, but plenty of punters were happy to take him on and were rewarded when Tempted saluted with the Ladbrokes Tote +20% promotion,” Entain Industry and External Affair Director Andrew Hannan said.
“Multis in Sydney were up an incredible 61%, with the two short-priced favourites very popular across the day.”
