Trent Edmonds will resist the temptation to campaign Extragalactic in Queensland, despite the untapped filly’s narrow defeat in Saturday’s G1 Goodwood.
For a few fleeting seconds, Edmonds thought he had doubled his Group 1 tally when the three-year-old let loose with her trademark turn of foot at Morphettville.
Many on track, including the filly’s large entourage of connections, thought she had a winning margin on the line but the photo finish revealed that Desert Lightning had staved off the challenge, with Extragalactic officially 0.02 lengths away in second.

Edmonds said it was a sick feeling when he realised Extragalactic had been defeated.
“It was horrendous,” Edmonds said.
“Form where we were standing in the mounting yard, we thought we’d won and that’s why we all celebrated like crazy people.
“When I saw the number four on the screen my heart sank and I wanted it to be for another venue because I was so sure that we’d won.
“It was elation to despair in the space of 30 seconds.
“We were sitting at the dinner on the marina (at Glenelg) and I spent hours just staring at the wall, it was brutal.”
Any thoughts of extending her campaign in order to tackle the $3 million Stradbroke or the G1 Tatts Tiara, both over 1400m, have been quelled, with the filly to be spelled ahead of a spring campaign.
Edmonds believes that Extragalactic can return an even better sprinter in the spring and will be at her best on top of the ground.
She was added to Sportsbet’s market for The Everest after Saturday and is rated $51.
“We just want to take care of her now,” he said.
“She’s come a really long way in a short space of time and I’ve always said with another spell under her belt, she’s going to be an even better mare.
“So we’re definitely pulling the pin and giving her some time in the paddock.”
