Flemington is preparing for a crowd of more than 25,000 for Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes meeting, with the Victoria Racing Club introducing discounted beer prices and a new $100,000 tipping competition.
The VRC expects one of its biggest non-Carnival crowds of the year and the club will offer selected beers at reduced prices, with Carlton Draught and Carlton Dry 3.5% available from $9.50 for VRC members and $12.50 for the general public.
Low and zero-alcohol options will be cheaper again, with Carlton Light, Cascade Light and Asahi 0% priced at $8.50 for members and $12 for the public.
The club will also launch The Flemington Fortune, a new on-course competition offering racegoers the chance to win $100,000 if they can correctly tip every winner on the program.
If nobody tips the entire card, $10,000 will go to the entrant with the most winners who submitted their selections earliest. Tips must be lodged on course before the first race, with entrants required to remain at Flemington until after the last.
VRC chief executive Kylie Rogers said the club expected a strong atmosphere with the Melbourne Cup Carnival approaching.
“TAB Turnbull Stakes Day is one of the great days on the Flemington calendar, and we’ve worked hard to ensure there is something for everyone,” Rogers said.
