Will Freedman is enjoying the view from the top of the Sydney trainers premiership after Horizons completed a stable double on the opening day of the 2026-27 racing season at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
“I’ve dreamed of this moment,” said a jovial Freedman after Horizons won the Congratulations Siena Grima Handicap (2000m).
Freedman, who trains in partnership with his father, Richard, also prepared Attractiveness to win the season opener earlier on the Rosehill program.
“Horizons has been game all preparation and she was again today,” Freedman said.
“It’s always a query when you have had some tough runs to come and back that up again.
“But I think the benefit of those tough runs ha really hardened her for today’s race.”

Horizons ($6.50), raced by Dean Watt’s Dynamic Syndications, looked under siege in the straight but refused to surrender the lead and won by three-quarters of a length from Cheval De Bois ($5.50) with Anythink Goes ($8.50) a close third.
Star young jockey Zac Lloyd completed a double in successive races on Horizons, complementing his win on Gatwick, to also take an early premiership lead.
“It was a nice performance from her today, she was very determined,” Lloyd said.
“To the first turn, we probably did a bit more than I would have liked but then she relaxed well during the run and then found plenty under pressure.”
Horizons, a five-year-old mare by The Autumn Sun, sire of champion Autumn Glow, improved her race record to four wins from 21 starts and lifted her career earnings to nearly $300,000.
“We will see how she pulls up but I would think she has done her job for now,” Freedman said.
