Gibbo’s Queensland Blackbook

Blackbookers – Doomben, Saturday, November 29

Typical day in the southeast of Queensland, showers and changing conditions have made it hard for punters recently. Still feel the track played quite fair, so no real complaints from a punters’ perspective.

Here are three horses I’m keen to take out of Saturday’s meeting.

Race 1 – MOONAN QUARTZ – The one that got away for Besty followers here. Anywhere from $31-41 bet about this horse and not much went right as noted in the Stewards’ report: Began awkwardly, lost ground and then was hampered. Passing the 1100m had to be steadied when being restrained in an attempt to obtain cover. Had to use a lot of juice early to push forward and the effort to finish where he did means he will win a race soon. We’ve missed the price now though!

Race 7 – ZASZOU – Was wide the entire trip and simply never looked comfortable here. You’d think a drier track would be more to her liking. Will strip fitter for the run, probably better on a bigger track too and is one who can pick a race off over the next month somewhere in Queensland if they stay up here.

Race 8 – BOOMTOWN BOSS – He’s a beauty this horse. First up win was exceptional and he was again very good on Saturday. Got out after the winner and just missed on the line. He’s got the most upside to come out of this race and he is on target for the Millions carnival. Gollan says he has a few tricks so he might not try them, but this horse’s full sister was a blinkers horse and they worked beautifully for her. Food for thought, but there is a reason he’s one of the best trainers in the land and I am not.
