Melbourne Cup champion Half Yours was involved in a fall during the 2026 Caulfield Cup, won by Kingswood.
Ridden by Mark Zahra, Half Yours was brought down in the early part of the home straight.
The Yulong-owned Ohope Wins, ridden by Jye McNeil, was also brought down after being caught up in the incident. The mare was sadly euthanised following the fall.
Jockey Mark Zahra will be transported to hospital for further assessment and observation but is conscious and alert.
Jye McNeil returned to his feet and will be assessed by the on-course medical team.
Half Yours has trotted post the incident.
McEvoy Racing manager Rayan Moore said the stable is quietly confident Cup champion Half Yours injuries are superficial, saying he looks ‘’like he’s gone through ten rounds with Mike Tyson’’.
‘’It was a big sigh of relief when he got up, and he cannoned past the post, and then came back to us,’’ he told Betsy.
‘’And we’ll get back to him now. All his injuries appear superficial at this stage, but hopefully that’s the case.
”He’s a little bit ginger. Looks like he’s been in about ten rounds with Mark Tyson. We’ll go back and see him now.’’
”It is with sadness that Racing Victoria (RV) confirms that Ohope Wins was humanely euthanised by the on-course veterinarian as a result of an injury sustained when brought down by the fallen Half Yours in the Caulfield Cup,” Racing Victoria said in a statement.
”The mare was immediately attended to by the veterinary team, however she was unable to be saved due to the nature of the injury sustained.
”Half Yours, who fell during a racing incident, regained his feet before being collected by the Clerk of Course and returned to the mounting yard. He is undergoing a thorough veterinary examination.
”Riders Jye McNeil (Ohope Wins) and Mark Zahra (Half Yours) were both attended to by the medical team and walked to the on-course ambulance. Both riders have been taken to hospital for further examination.
”RV extends its condolences to Yulong, the owners of Ohope Wins, her trainer Chris Waller and their stable staff who cared for the horse and are deeply saddened by their loss.
”Stewards will conduct an inquiry into the racing incident. The incident will also be reviewed post meeting by RV Veterinary Services as is standard practice.”
