The Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained Half Yours has won the Melbourne Cup in sensational fashion.
Jamie Melham has become the first female jockey to win the Cups double, Half Yours having also claimed the Caulfield Cup.
Melham’s Melbourne Cup win comes ten years after Michelle Payne famously became the first female jockey to win the race aboard roughie Prince Of Penzance.
Half Yours settled midfield before Melham steered him through a couple of narrow gaps closer to the rail.
Half Yours defeated Goodie Two Shoes, Middle Earth and River Of Stars.
Speaking on Channel 9 post-race, Melham showed a pin she sported on her safety vest, the pin carrying the colours of the late Col McKenna, who was the original owner of Half Yours.
Speaking post-race, Jamie Melham paid tribute to her husband and fellow rider, Ben Melham.
Co-trainer Calvin McEvoy paid tribute to the entire team.
Tony McEvoy said “this is our great race, and it’s so special to win it.”
