The Tasmanian Racing Club in Hobart host an eight-race card on Sunday afternoon.

Fine weather is forecast for race day, with the rail in the +10m position, a shift from +7m for the meeting a fortnight ago.

R1 Kevin Sharkie Maiden, 1100m

LAWRENNY BOYS (2) continues to race consistently, racking up another placing last start over 1200m making it 6 from his last 7. Back to 1100m a positive, and there looks less pressure than last time. MISS STRAT (7) trialled nicely at Longford and expecting her to run well on debut. CAN’T CATCH CHILLI (6) gets the run of the race from barrier one and can improve sharply third run back. TIMELY NEEDS (5) amongst the chances resuming after showing ability in his first preparation but will be better over more ground. LUCKY COUNTRY (3) has blinkers going on for the first time dropping back in trip but needs a big lift on recent form. SORELL EAGLES (4) was placed in most recent trial but was under hard riding late. GEE GEES BROTHER (1) needs a big form reversal.

Staking Strategy: Lawrenny Boys is bursting to win and coming back 100m suits but wary of the debutant Miss Start who has attracted good early support. 1 unit to win LAWRENNY BOYS (2).

R2 Aviso Tas Insurance Brokers Maiden, 1430m

WALKING STREET (6) comes here 44 days fresh and all 3 runs to date have had merit. First run on home track but has trialled nicely here on a number of occasions. GOLD TIANNA (1) is close to breaking through. Last couple have been very good and without a lot of luck last time. WOUNDED EAGLE (7) had all favours on debut but the run was solid over an unsuitable trip, behind the well-supported favourite. NORTHERN CHILD (3) has drawn well, was okay resuming, and extra trip a plus. BIG OLIVE (8) ran into the placings at Launceston but comes back in distance. LORD HEAR US (2) was solid last time and should be competitive again despite drawing awkwardly.

Staking Strategy: Gold Tianna has improved this time in and appeals at good each-way odds. No knock at all on the 2 favourites but are well found. 2 units each-way GOLD TIANNA (1).

R3 Ladbrokes Odds Surge Class 1 Hcp, 1430m

I’M A MACHINE (1) was successful 2 runs ago at this track and trip then may not have been suited leading last time. LIVE ON LOVE (3) hasn’t been far away all runs this preparation coming off a long break, will be fitter now fourth run in and gets blinkers for the first time. ALPINE JOY (9) disappointed on the synthetic last week but has claims on the previous effort when runner-up in a similar contest. SOUTH GEORGIA (7) will have her work cut out from the outside gate but has a case if the breaks fall her way. LIGHT FORCE (2) brings winning form but it wasn’t the strongest of maidens. ALPINE HONEY (4) mixes his form and can be hard to run down when on song.

Staking Strategy: I’m A Machine went to the front last time and failed to finish off. Better ridden with a sit and back at the 1400m. 2 units to win I’M A MACHINE (1).

R4 Winning Edge Presentations Maiden/class 1, 2040m

THE TAZWEGIAN (11) hit the line strongly at her latest coming from last at the 600 and looks ready for the extra trip fifth run back. STAR PERFORMER (10) is showing good staying promise and simply wasn’t suited back in distance last time. JUST BOBBY (3) comes here with winning form over 1620m and although a query at the 2040m is lightly raced with more upside his opposition. SIR JAG (5) the best of the rest but was safely held here last time. GEEGEES BIG BIRD (6), LYCO RECO (7) and WHISPER OF MATILDA (12) wider hopes for first-4’s.

Staking Strategy: Any of the top 3 in the market could win but leaning to Star Performer who has a fitness edge on the other 2 and will appreciate getting back out to a staying trip. 2 units each-way STAR PERFORMER (10).

R5 Happy Mother’s Day! Class 3 Hcp, 1600m

IT’S JAGGER TIME (1) awkwardly drawn and gets to Hobart for the first time but could not be going any better. QUAFFTIDE (8) the logical danger coming through the same race as It’s Jagger Time  and more effective when ridden with cover. BERSERKER (3) in the mix coming off a 7-week let-up and has been consistently around the mark all preparation. GEEGEE STRAWBERRY (9) brings winning form and going well for the new stable. SKELMORLIE (5) came from the tail to score here second-up in a race that panned out perfectly. NATIVE CLAN (10) each-way claims but did have every hope behind Skelmorlie last time. HIGH TAIL EAGLE (12) next best.

Staking Strategy: It’s Jagger Time brings the best form and provided he handles Hobart will take a power of beating. Beserker is capable of running a race at good odds. 2 units to win IT’S JAGGER TIME (1), 1 unit to win BERSERKER (3)

R6 Ladbrokes Hosted Pots Class 1 Hcp, 1200m

DINA TYCOON (7) presents 30-days fresh and looks the likely leader. She won her maiden at this track in good style. ACCUSAIENT (9) won at Hobart earlier in the year with a bit of authority and looks suited 8-weeks fresh. OXIDIZE (12) gave a great sight at odds in a harder race second-up but was just found wanting late. WALTZING MATILDA (6) can bounce back off a wide run last time after winning her maiden in good fashion the start prior. TOO MUCH TOO SOON (8) a tricky gate to navigate and all the favours last start but has more improvement to come.  DIZZ BOOGIE TIME (4) was unlucky on debut then was quick to make amends but could not have drawn much worse. WINDARA WOLF (2) next best.

Staking Strategy: Hardest race of the day with the winning chances running deep. It should be a truly run race and with even luck Accusaient should be hard to hold out. 1 unit each-way ACCUSAIENT (9).

R7 Aviso Tas Pink Cup Day – May 24 Benchmark 64 Hcp, 1200m

GEE GEE ENUF SPEED (1) hasn’t won for almost 16 months but looks awfully hard to beat back in this grade. HALEN (5) will be hard to hold out. He goes better fresh then his record would suggest and won 1st up last preparation. ZUNI (11) has returned in good order off a long absence and looks to get all the favours from the inside gate. ANTHEIA (7) is proven around here and brings winning form. MATERIAL MADAM (6) wide gate a concern but keeps racing well and beaten by a smart one at past couple. GEEGEES DOWNPOUR (8) is going well but concedes a start and needs a truly run race.

Staking Strategy: Leaning to Gee Gee Enuff Speed in another tough race, ready to threaten third run back and saves her best for here. 1 unit each-way GEE GEE ENUF SPEED (1).

R8 Kevin Sharkie Benchmark 72 Hcp, 1600m

GEORGARONI (2) continues to race well coming off back-to-back wins and there’s no reason he can’t make it three straight. HURRICANE KETUT (4) another last start winner with claims but did enjoy the perfect trail here last start. ZEWINNA (3) was ordinary at Launceston but best is good enough and gets in well after the 3kg claim. SKY LAND (6) a query at the trip but last couple have been good. NICCO THE GREEK (1) drops sharply in class coming off a placing in open company but carries a hefty 7kg extra. JUST A NEEDS (5) kept coming without threatening first up and will be better for the run. This trip her sweet spot.

Staking Strategy: Georgaroni keeps raising the bar, gets a handy claim, the testing material once more. 2 units to win GEORGARONI (2).
