A stable groom was rushed to hospital suffering serious injuries after she was dramatically kicked by a horse in a shocking pre-race incident at Redcar in the UK on Tuesday.

The incident, caught on camera and widely shared on social media, happened shortly before the fifth race, where trainers Richard and Peter Fahey had entered Kameko Fever, a three-year-old gelding.

Footage shows as the horse was being walked around the parade ring with the stable’s groom, identified as Chloe Briody in the UK press, moved in alongside from the horse’s right-hand side.

Moments later the gelding suddenly lashed out with both hind legs, striking Briody heavily in the side and knocking her to the ground.

Medical staff attended immediately before Briody was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Footage of the incident quickly spread online.

Richard Fahey later confirmed to Mirror Racing that Chloe was recovering: “It was one of my girls, Chloe, and she is fine. She went to hospital in an ambulance, they took an x-ray and everything is fine.”
