Unbeaten Ice Kool will run in the Brendan Lindsay and Peter Tighe slot in the $3 million Magic Millions Sunlight at the Gold Coast next month.
After another raw but impressive win at Randwick on Saturday, the deal was brokered by Widden Stud for David Pfieffer and the Strong Bloodstock team.
“He isn’t paid up for the Magic Millions, so it’s a good opportunity to run for big money after just a couple of starts,” Pfieffer said.
“It is a funny situation because we lease him from Widden, so they did the deal. They have been very good to me my whole career.”
“I didn’t have a lot of horses at the end of the sales period last year and went to Widden and asked what they had left and he was one of them, so we leased him.”
“He has shown talent from the time we got him. He needed a bit of time and had a little knee clear out, and that’s why he didn’t race until now.”
“You can see how good he is, and this is a chance for him to show it on a pretty big stage.”
There have already been offers approaching $1 million for Ice Kool, but for now, he is staying in Australia.
Pfieffer has booked Jason Collett to ride Ice Kool at the Gold Coast as he has done a lot of work with the three-year-old, including winning his maiden on him.
He had to miss the ride on him on Saturday, when Jay Ford filled in, as he was clocking up a four-timer at Eagle Farm, but didn’t miss the race.
“He is still so raw and doing things wrong, but as you can see, he has an enormous amount of talent,” Collett said. “I was watching on the weekend in the jockeys’ room, and he didn’t disappoint me.
“He is only going to get better when he works it all out, but he is right in any race he runs in now.”
Ice Kool is a $7 chance for the Sunlight, where Queenslander Grafterburners is the $3.50 favourite in front of Akaysha, Savvy Hallie and Foreign Press, who all have slots.
Magic Millions took Bjorn Baker-trained Swordplay for its Sunlight slot on Sunday.
The Shalaa filly made three wins from five starts when she made a one-act affair of a three-year-old lead-up at the Gold Coast in the week before Christmas.
She looks the likely leader in the Sunlight and is an $8 chance.
