One of the rising stars of WA’s training ranks, Indianna Weinert, will relocate to South Australia later this year and she’ll bring her emerging sprinter Smooth Chino with her.

Smooth Chino gave the young horsewoman one of her biggest wins on Sunday when he captured the G3 Northam Stakes, a fortnight after he ran midfield at $8 in the $5 million Quokka at Ascot.

Weinert, who is based at Albany, said she has been contemplating an interstate move for some time and has recently purchased a house and stables at Gawler, 45 minutes north of Adelaide.

“The Albany season is coming to an end and I didn’t really know what I wanted to do,” Weinert told SEN.

“It (Albany) is a long way from Perth and I didn’t want to do all that traveling again.”

“This opportunity arose to purchase a house in South Australia and some stables so that’s where we are heading.”

“Some owners have jumped on board and are keen for me to take their horses over there and some haven’t which I totally understand.”

“I’m trying just to take quality over there.”

“The team is looking pretty strong.”

Weinert confirmed that Smooth Chino, who has won seven of his nine career starts to date, will tackle the G3 Belmont Stakes over 1400m later this month before being spelled ahead of his interstate move.

Feature races in Melbourne are expected to be on the gelding’s agenda in the spring.

“He’ll just have one more run and then go out,” she said.

“I like to keep his preparations short and sweet because he still is a big baby and I don’t want to overdo it with him.”

“He’ll run in the Belmont Sprint, go to the paddock and then make the trip to Adelaide at the end of June.”

“I think he’s just getting better and better.”
