Tasmanian young gun Jabez Johnstone is set for a stint with top trainer Ciaron Maher.
Jabez Johnstone confirmed he is set for a three-month loan with Maher beginning next week.
But there is just one little issue – he needs more one winner to be able to complete the move.
“I can’t transfer until I have 80 winners, so I’ve got a few cracks in the next week, and hopefully at least one of them hits the post first,” Jabez said.
According to Tasmanian Racing, Johnstone has ridden 79 winners at a winning strike rate of 14% since he debuted 18 months ago.
He has had ridden previously in Victoria as a visitor, picking up his first winner at Caulfield in April, after clinching Tasmania’s apprentice premiership.
“I’ve had great support from heaps of trainers since I started, but particularly from my Master Sarah (Cotton).”
“Sarah gave me my first chance, and no matter what happens from here, I’ll always be grateful for that.”
Sunday’s Hobart meeting will likely be the last in Tasmania for Jabez before he makes the move.
