The Ka Ying Rising effect has rubbed off on his eating partner from his Everest trip with a debut win at Pakenham on Thursday.
Ka Ying Cheer was on a one-way ticket from Hong Kong, when he came out last year. His main mission to make sure the superstar had company in quarantine and ate up.
He went to the Euroa stable of Ben, JD and Will Hayes after completing his duties and after 248 days away from raceday, Ka Ying Cheer, in the Lindsay Park silks, settled back and stormed to victory.
“I was surprised how well he won today off Geelong. He trialled well [but] he might have needed this,” jockey Luke Currie said.
“He is still a bit big after a bit of time off.”
“The boys had the idea of riding him a bit quieter today and finishing it off.”
“He was OK early, then the horse on the inside of us got racing and bumped him around a bit, so he was wide and keen.”
“And he still won.”
There is definitely something to work with for the Hayes brothers and they will be hoping a similar classy travel buddy arrives with Ka Ying Rising for The Everest this year.
