Turf Talk:
- Kyneton is a tricky track with a short home straight and it is rarely a disadvantage to be on speed.
- The surface has played reasonably well of late, although it has had a fair amount of racing.
- Momentum is key. You need to be building before the home bend, no matter where you settle.
- Rainfall this week should help ensure the track is reasonably even. Inside might chop out a bit.
Race 4
(6) Short Reply was dead-set stiff not to win at Kilmore last time out. Got back and was badly held up before flashing late into fourth. That was his second run for Niki O’Shea and he now looks ready to win third-up. Like the wide draw as it allows Ryan Hurdle to assess his options early as there isn’t huge speed in this race.
(8) Please Me Do will need some luck off the inside draw, which she didn’t get at Geelong last start, but she’s racing well.
(1) Bit Of Shoosh belted them here on debut before starting $3.90 in the $500k VOBIS Guineas but he’s been ordinary since. Working his way back down in grade, drawn well with a good jockey up – right in the mix.
Watch the market with (2) Snappy Beau. Well backed at Ararat and bolted in four back. Done little since but has some ability.
Suggested bet: Provided horses can make ground then like Short Reply E/W.
Race 7
The toppy (1) Magic Leprechaun was vetted behind the barriers at Yarra Valley last start and dipped badly before the home bend – was ultimately eased out of the race. I’d take that as a total bye. Run this track and trip two back was excellent – arguably should’ve won. Has had a tick-over jump-out to ensure he’s OK after that miss last start and moved nicely. Drawn well.
Suggested bet: Backing Magic Leprechaun
