Stewards has suspended a jockey for careless riding from the Caulfield Cup, but in an incident unrelated to the tragic fall later in the race.
In a report released on Saturday, a week after the race, stewards stated that Lachlan Neindorf had been suspended for careless riding after an incident involving his mount Starford, and another horse Ohope Wins.
Ohope Wins and Melbourne Cup winner Half Yours later fell in the race in an unrelated incident. Tragically, Ohope Wins did not survive the fall.
The incident involving Neindorf happened early in the race at the 2100m mark, while the tragic fall involving Ohope Wins occurred at the 200m mark.

‘’Rider Lachlan Neindorf (Starford) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that near the 2100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Ohope Wins, which was tightened for room and lost its rightful running,’’ the stewards report said.
‘’L Neindorf had his licence to ride in races suspended for a total of 10 race meetings, with the period to commence on Sunday 1 November 2026 and to expire on Monday 9 November 2026.
‘’Accordingly, L Neindorf will be able to return to ride on Tuesday 10 November 2026. In assessing penalty, account was taken of his guilty plea, record, that the incident was in the low-range category and the RV Feature Race Penalty guidelines.’’
