Is the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale the best value-for-money sale in the country?
There’s a strong argument that can be made to say that it is.
While it doesn’t boast the soaring average of its Gold Coast counterpart in January, a quick look through the honour roll will show you that G1 winners are consistently sourced out of the SA catalogue, and for not a lot of money.
Globetrotting sprint queen Asfoora could have been bought for $30,000. Private Eye, a G1 winner that was runner-up in The Everest and a horse that has netted connections almost $13 million, was bought for just $62,500. Hong Kong star Galaxy Patch fetched $50,000 through the Adelaide auction ring before being traded for a significantly higher sum off a smart maiden win.
Even last year’s sale, from which graduates are only two and mostly yet unraced, has already unearthed juvenile Stakes winners Eternal Warrior and Hard Kick.
“It’s a very historic sale,” Magic Millions’ Ben Culham said.
“The honour roll is amazing and the next Asfoora, Private Eye and Galaxy Patch could be here.”
“From first season sires like Dalasan, the local hero, to joint Champion 2YO Best Of Bordeaux, who is very well represented in the catalogue, to proven stallions like Zoustar and Toronado, as well as up-an-comers like Tassort and Wild Ruler, there is tremendous variety and something for everyone.”
Almost 400 yearlings – a quarter of which are being offered by local SA vendors – will be sold at the Morphettville complex over Thursday and Friday.
