Two jockeys involved in a horror fall at Caulfield on Saturday have both escaped serious injury.
Mark Zahra was on board Melbourne Cup champion Half Yours and Jye McNeil on Ohope Wins when both fell at around the 200m mark during the Caulfield Cup.
Both jockeys were transported to hospital.
While Half Yours is believed to have escaped serious injury, tragically Ohope Wins was euthanised.
VJA boss Matt Hyland told Betsy on Sunday morning that Zahra was discharged from hospital at around 11pm last night.
McNeil remains in hospital but is expected to be released on Sunday morning.
Hyland said the Melbourne Cup winning jockey is in good spirits.
No immediate announcement has been made whether the duo will be free to resume riding, however there is strong hope there will be no immediate medical reasons why Zahra and McNeil cannot.
McNeil’s close friend, former MRC chairman John Kanga, posted to social media on Sunday that is ‘’stiff and sore’’.
‘’ Great news that Mark was discharged from hospital late last night. Jye remains at @AlfredHealth , stiff and sore but in good spirits and thankfully having escaped any serious injury. All going well, he should be discharged later this morning. The boys were treated just metres apart. The doctors, nurses and staff at the Alfred have been outstanding. We are incredibly grateful for their care and compassion,’’ Kanga posted.
