Mr Brightside will bypass Friday night’s Group 2 Feehan Stakes at The Valley, with connections opting to focus solely on next month’s $5 million King Charles III Stakes at Randwick.
Co-trainer Ben Hayes confirmed on Tuesday that the stable decided against a Valley clash with star mares Treasurethe Moment and Pride Of Jenni, despite being tempted to back up the Makybe Diva Stakes winner.
“He pulled up great but a couple of years ago we went straight into the King Charles and we just got beaten, so we’ll follow that recipe,” Hayes told racing.com.
“He’s got a great record there (Randwick mile) and he’s got five weeks to it. He’ll trial on the same day in Sydney as Ka Ying Rising on October 7 and then go to the King Charles ready to turn in his best.”
Treasurethe Moment is set to take her place at The Valley after trainer Matt Laurie reported the four-year-old had recovered well from a recent colic scare.
“She had a nice gallop on Thursday and we were pleased with that workout,” Laurie said. “She will have another one either Monday or Tuesday and we’ll be away, but she seems fine.”
