Rail True – I expect with the tight-turning nature of Tuncurry, those landing on speed and finding the rails in run will hold a significant advantage.
R3
Cracking betting race here with three gallopers resuming off some very impressive trials. Keen to be with the Nathan Doyle-trained (9) Emalyn. She was well backed on debut in a strong form race before copping a plain run in transit. One slick trial back and she looks the map horse. (4) Andale Andale has also trialled up like a rocket. The gate is a slight concern, as is the 1200m – I would have preferred 1000-1100m, but she still has claims. There’s been a sustained market move for the debutant (1) Carmine, who produced a lovely recent trial. Gate 17, however, reads poorly.
Selections:
(9) Emalyn
(4) Andale Andale
(1) Carmine
(2) The Warrior
Suggested Bet – Emalyn WIN
R7
It’s a solid edition of this year’s Tuncurry Gold Cup, with the big stables sending some nice horses up for the meeting. Hard to go past the fit and in-form (8) Lugh. The 1600m starting point is very similar to Randwick, giving horses 400m until the turn. This should allow Lugh to offset the draw and roll forward – from there, he’s the horse to beat. I am respecting (4) Formal Display, who did a great job first up. The rise to 1600m suits, but the Heavy 9 deck is a query. (2) Hooligan Tommy was impressive last start when putting a gap on his rivals at the midweeks. This is another step up in class, but he’s going well. (1) Cosmic Vega gets in light with the claim and will relish the wet track.
Selections:
(8) Lugh
(4) Formal Display
(2) Hooligan Tommy
(1) Cosmic Vega
Suggested Bet – Lugh WIN
