Locally-trained gallopers have a good record on their home track and tend to dominate these meetings. Betting is always a helpful guide. Track is rated a Soft 6 with Rail Out 5m.
Race 2: (MDN/1100m
LEDHAVEN CASSIE was first-up off 289 days without a trial at Otaki and was heavily-backed finishing 2nd after pulling out of the early speed battle and left to chase leader and winner home. Given 5 weeks to get over, sure to be fitter, yet to see a wet track on race-day or trials, watch betting. LUCY is on debut for Peter Lock, the stable is running hot and her two trials suggest ability, skipped through wet ground without issue in her trials.
Suggested Bets: LEDHAVEN CASSIE & LUCY
Race 4: (MDN 2YO/1200m)
EXCITE was the standout performer at the Pukekohe Trials held on January 20. The track rated a H10, the well-bred colt by Wootton Bassett found the fast lane up the middle of the track and recorded a slick time winning his one and only public outing. A professional colt, he relaxed early and picked up when ridden out. Hard to fault and hard to beat. Robbie Patterson-trained RONALDO teams up with Craig Grylls for the locals and has early market support, two trials on top of the ground winning both, has gate speed to lead, a drying track would increase his chances.
Suggested Bet: EXCITE (Best)

Race 6: (R75/1400m)
BEAUESK is a tricky customer who can race ungenerously at times. The local has improved performances under the riding of apprentice Jim Chung at his past two starts at this course, winning a weak 65 coming from the back then sent forward in this grade last start at 1200m and was taken on a long way out, stuck on bravely in defeat. Claiming down to the minimum with preferred conditions at 1400m he is again a winning chance with positive intent.
Suggested Bet: BEAUESK
Race 8: (MDN/1600m)
Good debut without market support or a public trial by HOPINGFORA BEAUTY at Otaki when a close-up 4th behind sub winner LEICA RIPA, racing on-speed she was unable to sprint with the winner but was strong through the line. Suites by the rise to 1600m, any rain would increase her chances, bred to swim.
Suggested Bet: HOPINGFORA BEAUTY
