Owner Tony Ottobre and trainer Ciaron Maher are going to get choosy with where Pride Of Jenni races, starting with the Q22 at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The brave front running mare will be nine on August 1, but will remain in training and look for history.
“She is a happy horse in the stable and Ciaron said Bella Nipotina was the same that she just stayed in work,” Ottobre said. “She worked at the Gold Coast on Saturday morning, and that was enough for Ciaron to say let’s have a go at the Q22.
“She hasn’t been to the trip before but it’s worth giving her a go at it now.
“We know that she isn’t up with those really top horses now, and we have to be smart with where she goes.
“Put it this way if the track is heavy at Eagle Farm on Saturday, she won’t be there. But we think she can run another big race.
“We know that people expect her to be competitive, so we are very careful before committing to any race.”
Pride Of Jenni will not have to face Doomben Cup winner Birdman in the Q22, but Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner Half Yours will be there.
Ottobre is looking beyond Saturday and planning for the spring.
Pride of Jenni will be set for the Feehan Stakes and Empire Rose Stakes after a short break following Saturday.
“She has won both of those races twice, no mare had won two Empire Roses before she did it, and I would love to win a third with her,” Ottobre said.
“I can promise one thing, if she is not at the level to show her best she will be retired.”
