Derby Day is the immediate focus but with fields for Cup Day dropping on Friday morning, early shoppers haven’t mucked around sniping a few prices.

Race 1 No.4 Carnevale ($9 into $5)
Lindsay Park had a huge year with their 2yos in 2024-25 and they quickly got on the board in 2025-26 taking out the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes at Flemington on October 4. Punters think they can grab yet another 2yo winner with Carnevale – son of Pinatubo – who has had two jump-outs, the latest of which he won. He opened $9 but has quickly been backed into $5.
Race 4 No.4 Street Artist ($6 into $4.60)
Street Artist is unbeaten since the ultimate gear change (gelding), and early shoppers think he can keep building on that picket fence. He opened $6 but has quickly been backed into $4.60.
The favourite, Pallaton, has been very firm by the same token.
Race 8 No.15 Ludlum ($13 into $4.60)
Look, only the sharpest and quickest of fingers would’ve snapped up the $13, and doubt it took much money to move the needle, but irrespective Ludlum has been well supported in early markets. The Grahame Begg-trained 3yo grey has had just two starts, the latest of which he won at Seymour.
Race 9 No.15 Surfin’ Bird ($4 into $2.70)
This Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare is building an imposing record, having won four from five. She broke the clock at Caulfield last time out and punters wasted no time snapping up the $4 upon markets opening. She is coming off a big ratings figure so no doubt she will continue to appeal throughout betting.
One worth mentioning at odds….Race 9 No.14 Pondalowie ($26 into $17)
This mare has had no luck this campaign and now draws a good gate. She has been specced at a bigger price: $26 into $17.
Race 10 No.8 Sabaj ($5 into $2.90)
This bloke has had just one start for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, having started his career with Richard and Chantelle Jolly in SA. He was good from the tail in the Silver Eagle and punters clearly think the wide-open expanses of Flemington will suit, backing him from $5 into $2.90 early doors.
