Punting Form Data Drop: The Doomben map edge you can’t ignore

The best bets and key insights from the Punting Form team across the weekend.

The Heavy 8 is set to create chaos at Doomben on Saturday and the Punting Form database has already uncovered some clear patterns punters should be paying attention to.

Barrier/run-style combinations, lane data, benchmark ratings and market movers all point towards a handful of key runners across Queensland, Scone, Flemington, Morphettville and Belmont.

James and the Punting Form team have done the hard work. Now it’s time to find some winners.

Doomben Track Pattern Deep Dive

Firstly, I love to see a juicy Barrier vs Historical Run Style table.

Settling forward from gates 1-3 is ill-advised. Back and wide is tough going too.

The golden combination is settling midfield from a wide barrier, producing a massive 30% edge against the market. Midfield runners drawn inside are the next-best setup, producing an 18% edge.

Horses that profile perfectly to those patterns:

  • Midnight Dynamite (R1)
  • Our Queen, Eclair Awesome, Prince Levi, Nodachi & All Kinds Of Folk (R2)
  • Kohler Kid (R3)
  • Dream Roca & Double Cool (R4)
  • Cote Atlantique & Blindedbythelight (R5)
  • The Black Cloud (R6)
  • So You Are (R7)
  • Napoleonic & Warnie (R8)
  • Accidental Bid (R9)

Some strong favourites with the midfield-wide advantage there.

The jockey data becomes a little harder to trust when the GOAT (James McDonald, or JMac) flies in from Sydney and shakes up the pecking order, but ordinarily Tahlia Fenlon continues building an outstanding local reputation. Tim Clark also thrives whenever he heads north to Brisvegas.

Consistent with the Clark data above, Waterhouse and Bott continue to dominate. But Chris and Corey Munce remain the leading local stable, while Lindsay Gough is always dangerous when bringing runners to town.

And we haven’t even properly mentioned the Heavy 8 yet.

That’s another reason you need a Punting Form subscription this weekend. It helps identify the horses that love the slop versus the runners that need sunshine and flat tracks… like me.

Doomben Race 1 – 1200m

I think Midnight Dynamite wins the first, but we’re paying for JMac at the current price around $3. Would love to see a bigger quote before stepping in.

Doomben Race 5 – 1600m

Small bet on Welwal ($4.90). Another JMac ride and his book looks outstanding as usual.

The Heavy 8 suits, he ranks No.1 for Weight Class Price and produced a strong -10.5 benchmark figure last start.

Suggested Bet: Welwal Each Way

Doomben Race 6 – 1110m

The Heavy track data suggests a handful of big-price knockout chances.

Hi Dubai and Cigar Flick both profile as dangers, while Lonhro’s Queen has already been heavily backed early.

But I’m backing Catch The Glory at $27 for a few shillings. The horse produced excellent benchmark figures fourth-up last prep and stands out on a Heavy 8 profile.

Suggested Bet: Catch The Glory Each Way

Doomben Race 7 – 2000m

Stepping into some confidence here. So You Are ($6.50) has been well supported, maps into the coveted 30% edge profile and produced the quickest benchmark last start.

Trainer and jockey are both flying as well.

Suggested Bet: So You Are Win

Doomben Race 8 – 1200m

Jimmy is the simple choice. Outstanding benchmark profile and already trimmed from $3.60 into $3.30.

But the value play is Skybird ($15). The Mitchell Freedman mare produced the fastest last 600m of any runner in the field and handles wet tracks well.

Suggested Bet: Skybird Each Way

Scone Race 2 – 1600m

Autumn King is ready. The gelding has already tightened from $5.50 into $4.40 after producing the quickest -10.3 benchmark figure over the last 600m a month ago.

Ranks No.1 for Weight Class Price and Aaron Bullock’s Scone record is elite. He’s ridden almost twice as many winners there as any other jockey.

You can follow him with confidence across Friday and Saturday.

Suggested Bet: Autumn King Win

Scone Race 7 – 1600m

I genuinely can’t split Akaysha, Agarwood and Agatha. Box trifecta or box quinella for play money.

And good luck to the racecaller with All Adore in the market too.

Scone Race 10 – 1300m

Backing Whinchat.

The six-year-old has tightened from $12 into $11 and the PF AI model makes the gelding closer to a $10 chance.

Maps perfectly, has strong early speed and looks over the odds against the more fancied runners.

Suggested Bet: Whinchat Each Way

Flemington Race 5 – 1200m

Bacash ($15) has attracted early money and ranks No.1 for PF AI, Race Time Price and Weight Class Price.

Two outstanding benchmark performances over 1200m profile perfectly for this race.

Suggested Bet: Bacash Each Way

Morphettville Parks Race 3 – 1550m

Brave Star has recorded three of the four fastest times at this distance. The Stokes runner ranks No.1 for PF AI and has already firmed from $6.50 into $6.

Conditions should suit perfectly.

Suggested Bet: Brave Star Win

Morphettville Parks Race 6 – 1550m

The PF database absolutely loves Kalmana. PF Score of 99, ranks No.1 for Race Time Price and Weight Class Price, while also producing the fastest last 600m last start.

$6 still looks excellent value.

Suggested Bet: Kalmana Win

Morphettville Parks Race 7 – 1000m

Backing Tootell again with the 2kg claim. She beats the market by an enormous 43% on 116 rides at the Parks track.

Enuff Seduction produced the quickest benchmark last start and appears 25 times on the Top 4 Performers tally.

Suggested Bet: Enuff Seduction Win

Morphettville Parks Race 9 – 1250m

Invertational ($5.50) has a PF Score of 95 and produced the quickest benchmark last start. The map looks ideal swooping from the back, while Rochelle Milnes continues to outperform the market.

Distance and conditions both look perfect.

Suggested Bet: Invertational Win

Belmont Park Race 6 – 1600m

First Encounter ($2.80) has cruised through two recent barrier trials. Pike goes back aboard, the conditions suit and the horse profiles perfectly for the race shape.

There’s also a 12% map edge settling back from the draw.

Suggested Bet: First Encounter Win

Belmont Park Race 9 – 1600m

Archenemy ($19) looks a massive price.

The four-year-old ranks No.2 for Late Speed, the stable is flying and Laqdar Ramoly is riding in excellent form.

The benchmark profile suggests the horse is exceptional each-way value and one to follow this preparation.

Suggested Bet: Archenemy Each Way

Bonus Bets

  • Scone R1 – Allegro Miss ($19)
  • Morphettville Parks R8 – Jilladora ($12)
  • Belmont Park R8 – Rope Them In ($10)

Thanks for reading and good luck tomorrow.
