How The Track Plays

The Sunshine Coast hosts one of its biggest meetings of the year on Saturday, with more than $1.5 million in prizemoney headlined by the Caloundra Cup. Listed racing is also on the card at Rosehill, Flemington and Murray Bridge.

A Heavy 8 surface is expected to provide the biggest challenge, although improving weather should help conditions.

The Punting Form database has identified a significant pattern at the Sunshine Coast, where runners settling wide and forward hold a 23% performance advantage. That’s a profile worth keeping firmly in mind throughout the meeting.

Justin Stanley continues to rate as a jockey to follow, while the James Healy stable also profiles strongly based on recent performance data.

At Murray Bridge, runners settling back and wide continue to present a profitable historical profile.

Best Bets

Sunshine Coast Race 2 – She’s Exotic ($7.50)
She impressed over the same course and distance four weeks ago and looks well placed on the Punting Form speed map. After backing Balance The Books last start, She’s Exotic now appeals as the better value.

Sunshine Coast Race 8 – King Zephyr ($8.50)
The Listed Glasshouse Handicap looks an ideal target. He ranks No.1 for both PF Score and Race Time Price, produced sharp closing sectionals last start and owns the fastest 600m figure at the distance. Taylor Marshall also continues to outperform the market.

Rosehill Race 1 – Island Dec ($3.30)
Has attracted early market support, possesses strong late speed and gets ideal conditions. Adam Hyeronimus takes the ride.

Rosehill Race 6 – Polyglot ($3.40)
Michael Freedman’s stable remains in outstanding form and this four-year-old produced excellent benchmark figures at his latest start. The market has already identified him as the horse to beat.

Rosehill Race 8 – Eye Of The Fire ($5.50)
Rates exceptionally well on the Punting Form database with a perfect PF Score and the best Last Speed rating in the field. Maps to enjoy the ideal run behind the leaders.

Flemington Race 4 – Kings Reflection ($3.00)
Ticks every box with strong market support, a PF Score of 99 and an impressive -9.6 benchmark figure last start. Conditions suit, while Decalogue shapes as the obvious quinella play.

Murray Bridge Race 3 – Orlova ($2.00)
Clearly tops the ratings, claims 3kg and dominates the field on late-speed figures. Closed strongly last start and handles the expected conditions.

Murray Bridge Race 8 – Halliwell ($6.00)
Looks outstanding value. The stable is flying, she recorded the fastest benchmark figures last start, peaks third-up and boasts an excellent heavy-track record.

Fannie Bay Race 9 – Leveraged BuyoutDick Leech’s runner appeals in the Darwin Guineas. He heads the Top 4 Performers tally, maps favourably and produced the quickest final 200m over the mile among this field.

  • Rosehill Race 5: Crossbow ($18)
