Purton: Ka Ying Rising out to match Black Caviar glory

Zac Purton says Ka Ying Rising can have his Black Caviar moment in The Everest

Zac Purton is hopeful the real Ka Ying Rising turns up at Royal Randwick on Saturday to have his Black Caviar moment on the world stage.

The Hall Of Fame jockey believes Ka Ying Rising is the best horse he has ridden but knows the enormous challenge he faces in The Everest.

“It was always going to be hard going to Australia, but if the real Ka Ying Rising turns up, he will put on a show,” Purton said.

“I just want everyone to see how good he really is.”

Purton was unfazed by drawing gate seven in The Everest and is more concerned about Ka Ying Rising being relaxed before the race after he was on his toes in his barrier trial last week.

“I would have liked to draw inside Joliestar and Lady Shenandoah, but that gate is all right,” Purton said.

“I think everyone would be pretty happy with the draw, Briasa was the only one to lose out [with gate 10].”

“I think Joliestar and Lady Shenandoah should get the runs they want behind me. He will push forward and be somewhere near the lead.”

“If he handles the day, we should be right.”

Like Black Caviar did at Royal Ascot in 2012, Ka Ying Rising will carry an odds-on tag and the support of a nation as the Hong Kong star steps out on foreign soil for the first time.

Purton thinks Ka Ying Rising faces a bigger task than the unbeaten World Champion mare.

“Black Caviar had it a bit easier because she was stepping back in company. The European sprinters are at the same level as the Australians,” Purton said. “She got it done, just, and it shows how hard it is to travel and win.”

“Ka Ying Rising is stepping up in grade, taking on the best Australian sprinters because they are the world’s best, so he will need to be near his best to win.”

”I just want him to get it right, and if he does he will be very hard to beat.”

”But we know we are taking on the best sprinters in the world, and it’s grand final day for all of us.”

Ka Ying Rising has found his mark at around $1.70 in The Everest since the barrier draw with Joliestar gaining admirers into $7 from $8, while there has been support for Tempted, Angel Capital and War Machine after they got inside draws.
