Queen Of The Turf barrier draw: Dean Watling breaks down the winners and losers

Barrier positions and Pride Of Jenni’s presence shape the map in a fascinating Group 1 contest.

It’s a very similar story to the Doncaster last week, 1600m starting point is the fairest in the country with ~500m until the first turn – this should see the field of 14 sort themselves out well and truly before the turn.

This year’s barrier draw probably points towards drawing a good gate being more important with the addition of Pride Of Jenni in the race. I doubt you’ll want to be too far back in transit needing to sustain a huge gallop to rein her in.

Winners from the Draw

Treasurethe Moment (2)
She looks the big winner from the barrier draw, I think her best trip is 1600m and from gate 2 she can use Lady Shenandoah to find the 1-1 and land off rails. She will have to cart the field up but we have seen some of her best performances come when she can build into a race on her own accord.

Lady Shenandoah (2)
Crazy to think it’s been 549 days since we have seen Lady Shenandoah over 1600m, it’s worth the wait barrier-wise and she has drawn perfectly. She’ll likely tag the back of Perumist who can cart her up to Pride Of Jenni who’ll look to run them along.

Ole Dancer (5) & Arctic Glamour (7)
There shouldn’t be any hard luck stories for Ole Dancer from barrier 5 as well as Arctic Glamour in gate 7. Both will get a smart run off rails and on the back of the key Treasurethe Moment, who ideally for the duo will do the leg work to bring the field up to Jenni.

Losers from the Draw

Lazzura (8)
The big loser from this year’s draw for me. She has an electric turn of speed when her races are run to suit but I can’t see how she’ll be able to get into the race from this gate – she’ll likely spot the leader Pride Of Jenni some 10L at one stage with it all to do. The positive is James aboard.

Modella (12)
Another who looks hindered from the barrier draw. Yes, she does get back in her races but she’ll need a lot of luck in this field of 14 from barrier 12. Not ideal at all.

Overall

Overall when Pride Of Jenni is in the field, these speed maps mean a whole lot more. It’s a delicate balance of not getting too close, nor too far off her in transit. She creates interest and once again has in this year’s Group 1 race.
