Using Racelab Ratings, the table below assesses the field for this year’s Blue Diamond Stakes. It measures what each has achieved to date and, critically, what they will likely need to produce on Saturday to win the Group 1 feature.
At this stage, only two horses have already run to a rating considered strong enough to win an average Blue Diamond: Closer To Free and Big Sky. Both now need to prove they can replicate that performance at 1200 metres.
That said, this has not looked the deepest two-year-old crop so far. Juveniles can improve sharply from run to run, and grand final day often produces a new peak.
- JTD = “Job To Do” – the rating required to win an average Blue Diamond.
- Fillies carry less weight and therefore have a lower JTD benchmark.
Later in the week, Racelab’s Matt Collum will dissect the race in great detail and have a preview available on the site.
