Race 6
Prepared to forgive the last start failure of (6) Beadman, with a much more favourable setup expected here.
With James McDonald sticking and a map that allows him to roll forward and control the race, Beadman gets the chance to dictate terms. If able to steady things mid-race, it could make life difficult for key rivals, including the classy Godolphin filly Tempted.
Suggested Bet: Each-way (6) Beadman ($15)
Race 7 – Sydney Cup
A competitive staying contest where the 3200m trip poses a genuine query for several in the field.
(15) Highland Bling profiles as a key value runner, proven at the distance and still on the way up. From barrier 2, Ben Thompson should secure a soft run close to the speed, giving him every chance to be in the finish.
(12) Machine Gun Gracie is the wildcard. Lightly exposed and still improving, she caught the eye working through the line last start. While her preparation has been unconventional, we are keen to be involved at the price.
Suggested Bet: Back both (15) Highland Bling and (12) Machine Gun Gracie
Race 8
Racelab is firmly with Pride Of Jenni, who brings a level of performance that few in this race can match.
She has produced the rating required to win a race like this 13 times in her career and looks ideally suited dropping back to 1600m. Third-up is a proven profile for her and she is expected to take control of the race and put pressure on her rivals.
(3) Treasurethe Moment shapes as the obvious danger, having experience chasing her, while (5) She’s A Hustler may be suited by the tempo first-up and appeals as a value inclusion in exotics.
(6) Leica Lucy did not run to market expectations in the Australian Cup but is now available at a much bigger price in what looks a weaker contest.
Suggested Bet: Backing (1) Pride Of Jenni to win and seeing what the World Pool does to a few of them in the exotics and looking to include 3, 5 and 6
