Connections of G1-winning entire Reserve Bank have turned to one of the country’s premier horsemen to help overcome the sprinter’s poor barrier manners.
Last year’s G1 Goodwood hero was scratched in the gates prior to last month’s G1 Galaxy in Sydney, with stewards suspending the four-year-old and sending him back to the trials.
Co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr confirmed that Reserve Bank is undergoing some refresher training with Greg Bennett, with a possible Queensland campaign still on the agenda if he can improve his antics.
A G1-winning trainer himself, Bennett has built a reputation as a brilliant educator of young racehorses.
“He’s currently with Greg Bennett who is trying to sort out his barrier anxiety,” Kent Jnr said.
“He’s good with going in (to the barriers) but he’s become a bit claustrophobic once he’s in there.
“We’re hoping that we can trial him in two weeks’ time and then set him on a Doomben 10,000 path but the horse comes first and we need to get him right mentally.
“Physically, he’s perfect.”
The son of Capitalist has won five of his nine starts, but hasn’t raced since last May.
