The crown of the best racehorse in Australia was passed on after Saturday afternoon and now sits comfortably with unbeaten Epsom winner Autumn Glow.
While Via Sistina has been undisputed at the top of the tree for more than a year, age might be catching up with the imported star after her third to Sir Delius in the Turnbull Stakes.
Sir Delius is in discussions, as a two-time Group 1 winner this spring, but he simply can’t match the excitement around Autumn Glow.
Via Sistina has her 10 Group 1 victories, but she doesn’t have the perfect record and seemingly untapped potential of Autumn Glow, whose seven wins have come with a comfort that suggests there is more in store.
Where that will be next is yet to be decided, with Golden Eagle in Sydney and Empire Rose Stakes in Melbourne under consideration.
Autumn Glow is now the headline act of Australian racing and when she races, people will stop and watch.
SHE WAS BORN A WINNER 🌟

She carried a rating better than Winx going into the Epsom, and more attention, and Autumn Glow looked tested coming around the turn, as she faced the Randwick rise and took on the mile for the first time on Saturday.
But she simply had more gears than her rivals and while runner-up Fully Lit isn’t a great measuring stick, third-placed Pericles, a Golden Eagle and Doncaster runner-up, certainly is.
They were both asked to carry two kilograms less than weight-for-age under handicap conditions, even though Autumn Glow was facing Group 1 company for the first time, and she beat him by 1-1/2 lengths.
Autumn Glow became the first unbeaten Epsom (and second fastest) winner of the time-honoured mile, behind Randwick mile record holder Hartnell.
She did it while losing a shoe from an outside barrier, sitting outside the leader.
“She might be a sprinter-miler, but we don’t know yet,” jockey Kerrin McEvoy said. “She took a little time to come back to me when we got there, and then was off the bridle on the turn.”
“She is pretty special and was very strong late.”
It would be hard to see a better performance anywhere in the world this weekend, even with the Arc De Triomphe being run, and it will be interesting where the international handicappers rate her, given the time and decisive margin.
Pericles has twice carried the 115 mark in the World’s Best Racehorse Ratings, which means Autumn Glow would have to go in higher than that.
While Autumn Glow remains perfect that number, and interest, will only grow.
