Racelab’s Matt Collum has taken a forensic look at the Group 1 races at Royal Ascot using their ratings system to assist working out who’s best credentialed to take out this year’s big races.
Matt has started the week in terrific fashion, nailing three of the five Group 1 races, including Mission Central at 14/1 in the King Charles Stakes.

In The Lab | Commonwealth Cup | Group 1 3yo 1207m
Big field of 22 runners in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs. Speed looks decent with 4, 8, 10, 16 & 22 setting the pace. Charles Darwin may find the top with wearing Blinkers for the first time. I’m confident that the Sandy Lane Stakes is the strongest form reference. Venetian Sun shot away late to win by 3 lengths proving that she’s a classy filly! There’s no reason why she can win again here. Division seemed to hit the front early last start and gets his regular jockey James Doyle aboard. I’m expecting him to improve here.
Suggested Bet: Venetian Sun, something on Division too
In The Lab | Coronation Stakes | Group 1 3yoF 1602m
Field of nine fillies for the Coronation Stakes and I expect True Love and Timeforshowcasing to set a moderate speed. Precise showed a strong turn of foot when winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas (Group 1) at 4/1. She’s clearly the one to beat but at 4/7 there isn’t any value about. The Irish 1,000 Guineas form looks very strong. True Love started favourite in the same race at 4/6 and wasn’t suited by the race shape. I think she’s a strong chance of bouncing back to form at 3/1 here.
Suggested Bet: True Love
