Shaun Beirne steps into another feature Saturday with a simple approach. If the price is wrong, he is happy to take it on.
He’s keen to oppose a 2yo in Melbourne that makes the trip south while in Sydney he’s giving punters a great opportunity to get on a short-priced sprinter.
Randwick Race 6: Tempted
Beirne puts it simply: “Best horse, maybe. Top rater, sure. But too short.”
From the map, Tempted is likely to settle back and could find herself near last in a race with plenty of depth.
“Maps to be back, quite possibly last. There’s a stack of other very good horses in the race.”
To justify the current price, Beirne believes everything has to go right, and then some.
“She almost certainly needs another new peak to justify the price, and then you’re assuming the others don’t find one.”
Beirne is offering punters who think Tempted is ‘over the line’ a great opportunity to take $4 about her winning by 1L+.

Caulfield Race 3: Drumfire
At Caulfield, Beirne is keen to take on Drumfire, who comes through a race he believes was heavily influenced by track pattern.
“Raced on the heavily biased rail at Kensington last start.”
While the performance reads well on paper, his figures tell a different story.
“He needs three lengths or more on top of his most recent rating, and even then I still don’t have him on top.”
Beirne expects the market to correct as the race approaches.
“I doubt he starts favourite.”
