Sheza Alibi simply breathtaking in Doncaster demolition… but any chance she backs up?

Moody's midweek joke about the Queen Elizabeth Stakes takes on new meaning after Sheza Alibi’s breathtaking Randwick win

Peter Moody was bored during the week leading into the Doncaster, so he rang ATC racing manager Nevesh Ramdhini and asked, “how much is the late entry for the Queen Elizabeth Stakes?”

It might not be as moot a question as Moody thought when he made it, after Sheza Alibi demolished the Doncaster field at Randwick on Saturday.

“I was just kidding when I did, and there is plenty more for her in the spring,” Moody said. “But I was interested.

“She’s some sort of horse. They don’t win many races like that, let alone a Doncaster.

“It would be some race [with Autumn Glow], but you will have to wait until the spring for that.

“You have to remember she had a 12-month campaign last year and she deserves a break.”

Moody, who strapped Lygons Arms in 1988, took everything in about the win, including the presentation, before watching a replay of the 4-1/4 length victory over Caulfield Guineas and Rosehill Guineas winner Autumn Boy, with Militarize another 1-3/4 lengths away in third.

“My god, that’s incredible,” Moody said, adding an expletive or two. “She won’t be in a handicap again.”

WHAT HAVE WE JUST SEEN 🤯

Sheza Alibi remains unbeaten in blinkers, and it is hard to get a gauge on how good she might be.

She went back to last in the Doncaster and was the widest on the home turn, but once Jamie Melham balanced her up and asked for the effort, she took off.

“She had them beaten in two strides, that was incredible,” Melham said. “Jesus Christ, I’ve never sat on a horse that has given me goosebumps like that before.”

“They have a very, very special horse on their hands.

“I’ve sat on some very special horses before, but I don’t think any come close to the feel she just gave me then.”

Moody looked back at the opposition behind Sheza Alibi and shook his head.

“That was breathtaking, the second colt is a super colt and what she does is just amazing,” Moody said.

“Quite phenomenal and she’s so nondescript, she doesn’t stand out at home in training, she’s just a tradesman, she’s got a great hip, a big deep girth and a hell of a lot of ability.”

It would be great to see it tested in the Queen Elizabeth against Autumn Glow, but Moody closed the book on it simply by the time the Derby jumped.

“She won’t be going there,” he said.
