Doncaster doubt for Sixties despite Phar Lap Stakes win

Phar Lap Stakes winner Sixties has slipped down the Doncaster Mile order of entry after not receiving a ratings lift from handicappers.

Sixties might be in the top five in Doncaster betting, but his place in Australia’s biggest mile race is far from certain after not being lifted in the ratings for his Phar Lap Stakes win on the weekend.

The $11 chance has dropped to 48th on the Doncaster order of entry and would be borderline on getting a run, after Cristal Clear won the Ajax Stakes, which grants exemption from the ballot. He went from a $101 chance to $26 for the win.

Sixties, which only has 49kg in the Doncaster, went into Saturday on a 100 indicative benchmark after his third in the Australian Guineas and stayed on the same mark following his Group 2 victory.

The Doncaster ballot is decided by benchmark and then prizemoney, which places Sixties at the bottom of the 100 raters.

There was room for handicappers to move with Australian Guineas runner-up Planet Red at 105 benchmark from last month’s Group 1 Classic.

Sixties’ indicative rating allows handicappers to move it before the Doncaster.

He has dropped down the order of entry in recent weeks as Sabaj was given five points for running fourth in the All Star Mile to go to 104, while Steparty had his 104 rating confirmed after being in fifth in the same race.

Steparty had been boosted three points after winning at weight-for-age in Hobart earlier in the month.

Meanwhile, Scheelite, which is a $101 Doncaster chance, was rocketed up the rating by 11 points to 101 after winning the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue at Flemington on the same day. On Display ran third to Scheelite in the Group 3 and was moved up two points to 102 indicative.

Enxuto went up a point 98 for running third in the Ajax Stakes and will try to force his way into the Randwick autumn mile via the Doncaster Prelude next week.
