With racing in Queensland a little quiet and thew action heating up down south. my eye has been drawn to Saturday’s Caulfield card.
Let’s go AROUND THE GROUNDS
Caulfield Race 2 (4) Simurgh $3.70
Very little between Simurgh, Aelian and Amleto. They are genuine threats, but Simurgh has been a model of consistency since coming to oz with two wins and two placing’s in four runs. He is 2/2 at Caulfield and 2/2 with Willams riding. Like the fact he was rock solid over 2400m last start and 60 days between runs and back to 2000m should be fine. Other option would be quinella 2,4,16.
Caulfield Race 6 – Quinella (5) Natural Fling + (14) Portinari + (15) Santa Barbara
Bloody good race this and the form will be strong all spring. Natural Fling looks to be a star on the rise and the recent jumpout was sensational. Draws soft and that’s a big help. Portinari had no luck and was good two back. Then best L400m and 200m when runner up last start. Freshen and on the way up. Santa Barbara was $12 out to $21 on debut but the run was excellent. Strips fitter, in the right stable and runs better than the price suggests.
Caulfield Race 7 (7) Cosmic Crusader $2.50
I tried to find value in this race and just kept coming back to this bloke. We know what most of these others have either reached their ceiling or they are fresh and better over further. He has won 9 of 18 and was dominant in an easier race fresh when a 2.5L winner. 1400m second up looks ideal and although I’d like $3, I think this is the perfect race for him to stand up on the east coast and show how good he is.
Caulfield Race 8 (11) Asakura $9.50/$3.
I could have an interest e/w here or back this the win and make (2) Warnie a nice win result too. I love a lightly raced horse with good ability returning for a new prep. No doubt he will be better over 1400m+ but I just think he has class and is a chance of coming back an even better horse this time in work. If they run along and the fence is not ‘off’, he can win. Warnie has residual fitness and the trial in Sydney was excellent. He may just swamp them late out wide and happy for him to be a winning result too. (2) Warnie $7.50
