It didn’t take long for TAB’s new $1 million Quaddie Megapot to deliver customers a result.
In just the second weekend of One Pool, 120 TAB customers shared in the $1 million bonus pool following Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas Day meeting.
Each of the 120 winners collected $8,333.33 from the Megapot, on top of their percentage of the regular Quaddie, which returned $17,675.20 for a full unit.
Among the beneficiaries was one punter who turned a $65.50 Mystery Quaddie into a $13,242 collect, courtesy of the Megapot bonus and their share of the Quaddie dividend.
The Caulfield Quaddie pool itself topped $2.57 million, providing an early test of the increased liquidity One Pool was designed to deliver.
The $1 million bonus is triggered when the same saddlecloth number wins three of the four legs of the Quaddie.
On Saturday, Land Legend, Warwoven and Lady Shenandoah all carried the number two saddlecloth, triggering the promotion and delivering an unexpected windfall for those holding qualifying tickets.
The Megapot is separate from the regular Quaddie dividend, meaning eligible punters collect their share of the $1 million in addition to any Quaddie winnings.
For TAB, the result comes at an opportune time as it looks to generate interest in One Pool, which combines Australia’s three previously separate tote pools into a single national pool.
A TAB spokesperson said Saturday’s result highlighted the opportunities the new product could provide.
“The Million Dollar Quaddie Megapot went off in just our second weekend of ONE POOL. Punters won the Quaddie, plus a share of the million dollars on top.
“With more than $2.5 million in the Caulfield Quaddie pool on Saturday, 120 TAB customers shared in the $1 million Megapot on top of the $17,000 Quaddie.
“We’re really focussed on delivering bigger payouts for punters and more exotic opportunities and Saturday’s ONE POOL Quaddie at Caulfield highlights that.”
One Pool launched earlier this month with the ambition of revitalising tote betting through larger combined pools, increased liquidity and new wagering products.
The Megapot is one of the early promotional initiatives designed to attract attention to the revamped offering.
While Saturday’s $1 million payout gives TAB an early success story to celebrate, the longer-term measure of One Pool will be whether it can consistently deliver a more attractive tote product and encourage punters back to pari-mutuel betting.
For 120 Caulfield punters, however, the benefits were considerably more immediate.
