Shaun Beirne is taking aim at a pair of well-backed runners at Rosehill on Saturday, believing the market has overreacted in two key races.
As always, Beirne has put his money where his mouth (or opinion) is, offering two cracking specials for punters that want to meet him head on.
Race 4: Happy to take on both favourites
Beirne is happy to oppose both Big Papa and Tarzing, despite the pair dominating betting.
Big Papa has been aided by scratchings and now looks likely to find the lead, but Beirne believes the market has factored that in.
The gelding produced a career-best last-start rating carrying just 52.5kg but rises sharply to 58.5kg on Saturday.
“He’ll need to at least reproduce that peak figure to justify his quote, and that’s no certainty with the extra weight,” Beirne said.
As for Tarzing, the query is entirely around race shape.
With very little genuine speed engaged, Beirne expects Tarzing’s get-back racing style to make life difficult.
“He’ll likely settle last in a race that doesn’t look to be run to suit. He’s only had four starts so there’s upside, but at the current price you’re betting on improvement rather than proven performance.”

Race 5: Surf’s Up faces tactical challenge
Beirne is also prepared to take on Surf’s Up, believing the race map creates more questions than the market suggests.
The lack of early speed could leave the favourite buried away from a low draw, needing luck at the right time.
“From the inside gate there’s every chance he ends up further back than expected on the fence with plenty of traffic to navigate.”
“If you are keen to back Surf’s Up, be sure to do so with Bet Legends as we are dead keen to take her on.”
