For the first time in more than a decade, Tasmanian racing will be broadcast live on free-to-air television.
The Devonport Cup, alongside nine other races on the card, will be broadcast live on racing.com on Wednesday, January 7.
It is an important milestone for the state given their racing was last seen on free-to-air back in 2012.
The flexibility comes from a new media rights deal between Tasracing and Sky Channel that kicked in on January 1.
Experts Matt Reid and Colin McNiff head the broadcast team and will include both pre and post-race analysis.
“Our new media rights deal with Sky has an FTA allowance for 10 Tasmanian thoroughbred meetings each year,” said Tasracing CEO Andrew Jenkins.
“We appreciate Sky’s flexibility in enabling this broadcast.”
“This is a major boost for Tasmanian racing and great exposure for the Ladbrokes Summer Racing Festival.”
Tasmanian racing will get an added boost and focus on racing.com, given the rescheduling of South Australian and Victorian meetings due to hot weather.
The Cup, race nine at 5:07pm, will see Group 1-winning jockey Craig Newitt chase a record 10th win in the event aboard the Barry Campbell-trained Earendel.
It is expected a number of other Tasmanian race days will likely feature on racing.com as part of the deal.
Racing.com can be found on channels 68/78, Foxtel, Kayo and via their app and website.
