Star sprinter Tentyris will need a vet clearance to race again after finishing a disappointing fifth in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap.
The star colt started favourite at $2.20 but never threatened, with Craig Newitt wining another Newmarket with Caballus.
Stewards revealed on Saturday night revealed a possible excuse for the surprise defeat, revealing that Tentyris suffered from cardiac arrhythmia.
”Slow to begin. Laid out under pressure over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed cardiac arrhythmia for the first time,” the Stewards’ report said.
”Tentyris must not start in a further race, official trial or jump-out until the Stewards have received a satisfactory report from a qualified veterinary surgeon which includes the results of (a) an electrocardiography (ECG) of more than 60 seconds duration performed by that veterinarian whilst the colt is at rest and (b) a cardiac auscultation performed by that veterinarian within 15 minutes of the colt completing a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m.”
Jockey Mark Zahra said the track also didn’t suit Tentyris.
“The horse ran very well, just the way the track’s racing they’ve stayed right down near the rail. We drew out, we were around the right horses when we got out, he’s in the middle of the track and nothing around him gave him some chase, the ones on the inside was just a different race,” he said post race.
