Race 3 – 2:30PM Natimuk Fire Recovery Maiden Plate (1200 METRES)
Horses heading to a Horsham maiden on a Tuesday rarely trial better than #4 KING CAMELOT, who debuts on his home track. He won a Penola trial on January 16 under a hold, beating handy stablemate Oak Park Rebel, who measures up in BM66 and BM70 grade. He then went to Avoca on February 12 and showed a sharp turn of foot when Jack Hill let him stride, again winning impressively. He had also shown ability in a hit-out last campaign.
I like that he steps straight to 1200m on debut off 800m and 1000m jump-outs. That looks ideal. The 1200m start is one of the better launching points on the tight Horsham circuit and should give Jack Hill time to find cover from a middle draw. With even luck, he looks the winner and I would not be surprised to see him start odds on.
The main danger appears to be stablemate #10 CAPE RADSTOCK, who resumes after a midfield effort at his only start last preparation. His Mount Gambier and Avoca trials have been solid and he may hold a slight tactical edge, but I doubt he has the same upside.
#17 KIJIVU draws to press forward with Meech aboard and could look to control the race. He was plain at Colac last start and must improve, but leaders are often advantaged at Horsham.
#14 FILLE EN OR is one for the exotics. The race form reads poorly, but her recent jump-outs have been sound enough to suggest she can run better than her past figures indicate.
Suggested bet:
With the market pushing against both Preusker runners this morning having both going for a winning result.
Backing #4 KING OF CAMELOT at $2.80, smaller #10 CAPE RADSTOCK at $7.
