Turf Talk:
Rail +7
Firstly, big concerns over how a firm Rosehill will play with the rail in the 7m position. Expecting on-speed favoured. We enter this meeting with a sense of trepidation.
Race 1 – 2:25PM TAB Plate (1400m)
3YO Maiden over 1400m. Good race but just a lazy nine scratchings, which is becoming the norm these days. Betting early has become a joke with these deductions.
Map: (10) Shangri La Boy to lead and maybe (3) Condone to cross to be outside.
Loved the trials of (11) Sir Loyne and he looks ready to debut today. He found the line smartly in his latest over 1050m and this looks a nice starting point. The concern is where he gets to, but a nice draw gives him the chance to hold a position from barrier two, hopefully close to the speed. At close to $10 he looks worthy of a bet each way, but not going over the top given a few queries.
This is also a deep race, even after scratchings. (10) Shangri La Boy has talent and looks suited by the map and likely track pattern. Fitter now but he does look short enough given the stable are struggling currently. (9) Sarapo is in the mix from the right set-up: barrier one with J-Mac aboard.
Betting Suggestion:
Small (11) Sir Loyne EW
Race 2 – 3:00PM United Resource Management Handicap (1200m)
Another 3YO maiden, this time over 1200m, and another six scratchings.
Again, and maybe even more so here, concerned about the likely track pattern. Just think (9) Perfect Apple is a nice horse who is trialling the house down and we can’t let him go around without something on him. Love when McDonald teams up with this camp and it is important to note he has ridden him in both trials this time in. Both trials resulted in wins – and impressive ones at that. He might need some luck from the barrier, and praying the track is fair. If so, Perfect Apple looks very hard to beat.
Betting Suggestion:
(9) Perfect Apple win
